IVL to lead centre for dynamic modelling under the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution
Efforts to reduce air pollutant emissions under the UN convention on long-range transboundary air pollution have come a long way in the last 30-40 years. Continued success, however, places higher demands on environmental and decision data. IVL will assume the host role for the development this data using so-called dynamic modelling.

Speed limits for ships – new study investigates consequences for Swedish shipping
Are mandatory global speed reductions the solution to shipping´s climate emissions problems? This is the focus of a new research study that looks at this from a Swedish perspective. The answer is far from obvious, but findings suggest that the benefits of stringent speed reductions are overestimated. It may be possible to save fuel, but with reductions far below the ship's optimal speed, there´s a risk that fuel consumption may rise.

SDG:s set up in large companies seldom lead to action
A growing number of companies claim to follow the UN's global sustainability goals. A new Mistra Carbon Exit study shows that there is a risk that companies rather greenwash their activities by focusing only on goals where they are already performing well. Effective climate mitigation and a sustainable restart of the economy require companies to set long term goals that stick to the Paris Agreement and include the entire value chain.

Cleaner marine fuel delivers better onboard air quality
The 2015 Sulphur Directive, which limits sulphur dioxide emissions from ships in the Baltic and North Seas, has more than halved the levels of sulphur dioxide in the area. Recent research from IVL, Linnaeus University and Lund University shows that ships that run on cleaner marine fuel also have better air onboard.
